Summer is a time for rest and relaxation, a time to enjoy the beautiful weather, and a time to reconnect with people and hobbies that might have been put aside during the busyness of the school year. For me, it was also a time for dancing!
In my role as Summer Program Director at Masterworks, I am in charge of creating, implementing, and running week long summer dance camps. This summer we ran many different weeks of camp. We had camps specific for teens, 9-12 year olds, and 5-8 year olds. We also ran art camps and a Musical Theatre Intensive week. While the programming is fairly similar, each summer turns out differently. I am very pleased to say that this summer was fantastic! It’s hard to believe, but I can honestly say that each week, though filled with different students, was incredibly fun. It’s easy to love what you do when your students are eager to dance, are interested in talking about God, and genuinely care about those around them.
Our theme this summer was SHAPE: how God shapes us to be more like Him. Each day of the week we talked about a different letter in the word shape to learn more about how God created each of us specially, and how we can learn to love people the way God does. It was very encouraging to hear the questions posed by kids, and to see how much they considered each thing we talked about. Along with our bible times, we also did a lot of dancing during the day, and it was so wonderful to see the bright smiles on students faces as they twirled and bounced around the room. That is what I experienced this summer. I have been so inspired by the children I’ve worked with this summer, and I thank God for that privilege.
