Both the "Taste of Christmas" show and the Musical Theatre show at Sam's Place were lovely additions to anyone's Christmas season. The sights and sounds were a treat.
With dance, there is always a feast for two senses at once: music for the ears, and movement, expression, and costuming for the eyes. Whether it was a Christmas favorite like "Little Drummer Boy" or "Mother", the song that touched hearts, the music brought joy and life. And there were the costumes! Bright, colourful costumes. Like festive, fleecy onesies and light-up Christmas sweaters. So fun. And the choreography...we have talented teachers! Teachers who are unafraid to push the students to the next level. Teachers who can translate the meaning and feeling of a piece into motion. And dancers who connect their hearts and spirits to their bodies. It's beautiful.
One week later, a smaller audience got to use their other three senses as well, as the cafe venue of Sam's Place allowed for tasty food and drink to accompany their listening and watching. The evening featured the Level 3 and 4 students along with director, Teri-Lynn Friesen and instructor Alexander Grant. It was a packed house. There was a mix of singing, bits of choreography to spice things up, and dramatic readings telling of Christmas memories and miracles and the meaning of Christmas. Some of it showed the lighter side of our performers, and some helped us to slow down and reflect. The audience even got to join in as the instructors sang some Christmas favourites. In all of it, the students' passion for performing was evident. It was wonderful to see them grow in confidence and skill.
Now that the shows are over, the pressure is off. Report cards are going out, classes are celebrating their hard work and a job well done. Plus, some special events are happening. Be sure to check out -december-at-a-glance.html for details.
