This week I had the opportunity to witness the fellowship between students in the Masterworks kitchen. Over the course of the evening, various groups of students of varying ages gathered at the table (juice bar). Sometimes a teacher or two joined them, or a parent, and sometimes just children gathered, but always the mood was positive. I daresay the students walked away from there that day feeling a little bit happier and with a lighter spring in their step. One student was even heard to quip that she wished school could be as positive as Masterworks is!
To me, this highlights what an important role Masterworks plays in the lives of the students, and is also what sets Masterworks apart from other dance studios: Masterworks is not only a place to develop creative movement skills, but a place to be fed spiritually and to grow in God's loving grace. The positive atmosphere at Masterworks is no accident; rather, it is the result of ongoing prayer and the overarching goal to demonstrate God's love in daily living.
Let's continue to pray for the staff and students of Masterworks - that they will love what they are teaching and/or learning, and that each and every participant, volunteer, or staff will feel bolstered by this community of God's love.
Did you know that this is Masterworks' 25th year of teaching dance? Over the course of the past 25 years, Masterworks has taught thousands of children and youth (and a growing number of adults too!) to get in touch with their creativity, to exercise their bodies, learn new skills, make new friends, and to learn how to work as parts of teams greater than themselves. But more importantly, Masterworks has managed to achieve these goals while also demonstrating a passion for God through teachers who are committed to loving God and to sharing God's love with others through kindness, compassion, and grace.
This year, as a way of celebrating Masterworks' 25th anniversary, the dance studio is committing to participating in 25 acts of kindness. Nine acts have already been carried out and we are working on the 10th! Please see the 25th anniversary tab on this website for complete details about what has already been done, but note that completed acts include the running of dance, art, and theatre camps in Shamattawa First Nation Reserve, a painted mural for the West End Biz,, and a Winnipeg Harvest collection. The current project is the collection of goody and supply-filled shoeboxes to send to our partner community in the Dominican Republic.
Please join Masterworks in making this your own year of intentionally carrying out random acts of kindness. Plan with your kids, then go out into the community and make a difference! Afterwards, share your experiences by dropping a note in the drop box located at the Masterworks front desk explaining what you did. Periodically over the course of the year, anecdotes of your experiences delivering random acts of kindness will be shared on the blog. Or perhaps you yourself will be the recipient of a random act of kindness and you would like to share that too! Get creative and have fun; let's share God's love by working together to make our community and our city a better place!
Christmas is fast approaching and with it, the busy Christmas season! Please mark your calendars now (before your schedule fills up) and plan to join us on December 2/17 for the Taste of Christmas program at Glory and Peace International Church. There is plenty of room for an audience so please show your support by attending! Be sure to show your appreciation for the dancers by participating as the dance allows: some of the dance routines benefit from hoots and hollers from an active audience, so get creative and have fun!
**Tickets for the Christmas program are available at the Masterworks front desk or online,**
Please also note that deadlines for three Masterworks fundraisers are fast approaching: You still have time to order some last minute Masterworks clothing.! The deadline for orders has been extended to this Saturday, November 18/17. Perhaps a Christmas gift for the dance student in your life?
Consider ordering some food to help with your hosting this Christmas season! Mom's Pantry is one of Masterworks' annual fundraisers. The money raised through this fundraiser helps Masterworks to offer dance to all interested families regardless of income.
**Orders are due by Saturday, November 18/17. **
The Christmas wreath and swags fundraiser is back again this year! Please place your orders at the front desk for these lovely live decorations. They add an elegant touch to your front door or fireplace!
**Orders are due by Monday, November 27/17 at 8pm**
Friends of Masterworks ~ welcome to the once again, up and running Masterworks blog! By now, it is mid-November and classes are well underway. Your children have already learned numerous new dance moves or theatre lines, and even you may have already been lucky enough to learn some new moves (given that you have your very own teacher living under your roof)!
There are always exciting things happening and special events to look forward to at Masterworks. Keep your eyes peeled for the Masterworks emails in your inbox. We will also try to keep you up to date via the blog. Additionally, the front desk has the current newsletter on hand, as well as brochures and fundraising forms. Any questions you might have can also be directed to the friendly front desk staff. There is always something going on! :)
And so, we hope that you feel heartily welcomed to another year at Masterworks! May the students' enthusiasm carry you through the cold drives to and from the studio, and may you yourself feel blessed by the growth and joy so palpable among the many participants here.
Recitals for 2017 are now a memory. Congratulations to each student, class, and teacher for all the hard work, passion, and skill you put into your dances. Thanks to the costume coordinators, Naomi Wiebe and Teri-Lynn Friesen. Costumes add so much to each performance. Thanks to all who volunteered to make things go smoothly. Thanks to our directors who made the whole year run smoothly and who graciously MC'd the recitals. It is a beautiful thing to witness the year-end recitals. Thanks to the One who gives all good gifts, including music, dance and creativity.

A group of students will be travelling to the Dominican Republic this summer to show the love of Jesus through dance and other practical ways.
There are a number of ways you can help:
1. Financial donation; you will receive a tax receipt. We would greatly appreciate the gift, as we are needing to raise more finances for this endeavor.
2. Donating items from this list:
- Bottles of vitamins (no gummies please, as they melt)
- Used glasses from your eye-care provider
- Granola bars (4x the jumbo packages)
- Jumbo container of peanut butter (1)
- Rice Krispies (4x the jumbo packages)
- Jumbo packages of raisins (2)
3. Baking for recital: we need many people to bake 2-3 dozen cookies (or baking of their choice) for us to sell at the recital.
Please sign up at the front desk to let us know you will be donating
All proceeds go towards our 2017 Dominican Mission.
If you'd like to know more about this trip, please return to our blog as we hope to share stories and vision from those who will be going or have gone in the past.
Masterworks needs you!
If you love cookies and other tasty baked treats, then come buy some at the recital and help raise money for our students who are going to the Dominican to serve this summer.
If you love baking cookies (or brownies or squares or cinnamon twists or...), then please bring some to the recital to help raise money for the trip. Some gluten-free or nut-free or dairy-free would be appreciated as well.
There will be a sign-up sheet at the front desk. Bring 2-3 dozen of whatever you choose on plastic-wrapped plates (confirm at front exactly how they want displayed).
More information regarding recital is available. Check the community bulletin board while you're at the studio, for the base attire list (what you need to supply underneath costumes). If you are not sure what something means, use this week to ask the teacher so you have time to figure out where to find it.
Parents are advised to supply a backpack with your child's name on the outside, for all the things your child will be bringing to recital and dress rehearsal.
Here is the recital checklist:
