The musical theatre students were incredibly busy on February 19th and 20th in order to put on their creative and mouth-watering fundraiser. Ten level 2 students prepared a 3-course meal with the help of a "sous-chef" (often their parents, but including a football coach). It was interesting to watch the different pairs in action. Each team created and plated 100 samples of each dish to the delight of the crowd gathered in the Atrium. The recipes included kid favorites, grandmother's recipes, sophisticated cuisine, simple fare, and chef's own creations.. All were delicious.
Guests milled about, enjoying the food, conversations with the chefs, and live music. There were several judges on hand, including YFC director, John Courtney, and former teacher, Miss Jenna. One judge was actually a mother-toddler pair where points were tallied based on number of "Nums" (or was it "Yums"?). The winner of both the appetizer and the dessert category was Sonia Friesen, while Anika Martens won best main course. The overall winning chef, chosen by the judges, was Joshua Marshall.
Thanks to all the parents, the hosts/servers (the rest of the musical theatre students), the judges, the band (Alex and Co.), the guests, the clean-up crew, and to director Teri-Lynn Friesen, who came up with this amazing idea and carried it out with enthusiasm and perseverance. It should be even better next time!
The production which they were raising money for, "Dear Edwina Jr." takes place on Saturday, April 16th.
