Tell us a bit about your childhood involvement in your art form. When did you know this was "your thing"?
I grew up in an environment that was very supportive of artistic endeavors. My mom is an artist, so there were always art and craft supplies around for me to play with. I received encouragement and affirmation from friends and family over the years and decided to pursue art and design as a career while in high school.
What do you love about your art form?
I love that, through art, I’m able to express things within me… my experiences and how I see the world, something about the story that God is writing in my life or in the lives of those around me; and that another person with their own experiences and worldview can view something on a canvas or on a page and connect with it in a completely unique way.
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
My favorite thing about teaching is seeing a student’s face when a technique or concept that I’m teaching clicks for them. You can see it in their face, that “Ah-ha” moment, where they realize they can do it, and they take ownership of it. The confidence they have as they complete their work is a beautiful thing to see!
Why do you teach at Masterworks?
Teaching at Masterworks gives me a unique opportunity to combine all of my favorite things into one job. Working with children and youth, doing art with them, encouraging them to grow in their gifts and confidence, and sharing the truth of God’s love with them is an opportunity I never could have dreamed of.
What else do you do in life?
When I’m not doing art, I love spending time with my kids, going for walks and bike rides, exploring nature, taking photos, reading, and baking many many yummy treats for my friends and family to enjoy J

What is a favourite Scripture verse for you?
Since I was in my early teens, my favorite verse has been Jeremiah 29:11. I love the promise in this verse which has always encouraged me. Back then, as a young person making plans for my future, and later as an adult searching for hope in what seemed like hopeless situations.
What piece of advice would you give to someone pursuing or wanting to pursue their creative dreams?
Never be afraid to take a risk, learn from your mistakes, and tell your story. God has placed gifts in you to share with the world that no one else can share. They are a part of the plan and purpose for your life, and a part of the story God is writing in you and the world around you.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
