So many highlights from being director of Masterworks for the past seven years:
Every student that I have taught. Working with youth in movement and mentorship is inspiring and life giving.
The families. Getting to know parents and caregivers; where they come from, who they are, what happened in their day, laughing and praying with them is a precious gift.
My staff! God has blessed me with two families. A home family and a studio family. We do life together.
The YFC staff. I still remember when we had to move in the middle of our dance year from our Pandora location. Not only did John Courtney make room for us on Talbot but he also implemented a crew of wonderful YFC staff along with churches like the Meeting Place and Riverwood that helped create the studio space in just a couple of weeks!
Masterworks has moved approximately 12 times in 22 years! It is a huge highlight to be a program of Youth for Christ in such a beautiful building.
When our students minister through dance and art in prisons, churches, schools, residential home cares, festivals, competitions and charities.
When the studio joins together to raise funds or needs for our community. Giving out scarves, mitts, mugs, clothing, making and delivering cards of encouragement
Seeing the musical theatre program put on the Musical Annie Jr.
Working with outside artists who choreograph with our Linking and Performance teams
Adding accredited Ceccheti Ballet exams - future opportunities become more accessible for our students that pass these exams.
The development of our hip hop teams, musical theatre company, linking teams and performance teams - watching them rise to this challenge of a higher level of excellence and commitment.
Field trips: Going to the movies, the ballet, the Festival of Light, seeing dance shows or going to art exhibits. Having sleepovers, parties and tea times.
