The musical theatre year finished off with a showcase on Wednesday, April 12th at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall (U of W). Director, Teri-Lynn expected that the venue would suit audience-size for years to come, but already it was at capacity.
Each of the four classes performed one selection, although the Level 3 class was part of the Level 1 piece as well. The audience enjoyed:
"Naughty" from Matilda,
"How Far I'll Go" from Moana,
"Pirates of Kensington" from Finding Neverland and
"Coffee Break" from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
It was fun to see everyone so into their characters and singing their hearts out. Lots of confidence growing at every level.
The Level 4 class took on solos and duets as well, giving us some memorable performances, even if they were short snippets and not a whole song.
New this year, was the addition of music students who have been learning an instrument through "Cafe Music". Most of them had probably never performed in front of an audience before, much less a large audience in a theatre. It was great to see their determination and some very creative bows after they finished!
At the end of the night, Alex (the other instructor) made a dramatic announcement, complete with audience drum-roll, that next year's production will be "Beauty and the Beast".
Report cards and a pizza party wrapped everything up this week.
