On Tuesday, April 21st, the musical theatre students wrapped up the year with a showcase of their talents and skill development. They played to a full house at Flatlanders Studio on the 3rd Floor of the Winnipeg Centre Vineyard, with about 80 people in attendance.
The showcase was a first for the program. Director, Teri-Lynn Friesen, was pleased with the turn-out and with a seamless performance. The energy in the small venue was great for the performers. During one piece, the audience even clapped along! As you can see, they had a great time!
The show was short, but packed full of singing, dance and character portrayal. It was a wonderful opportunity to share their gifts with family and friends.
The evening opened with a confident rendition by the 7 & 8 class, of "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music. Level 2 students, in the 9-12 class were given the opportunity to prepare their own piece for the show. Two brave girls did an excellent job of their solos, and these four choreographed and sang "Gold" by Britt Nicole. One of the 13+ tap classes added some variety to the night. Each of the classes contributed one more song, and then they finished all together with "When I Grow Up" from Roald Dahl's Matilda.
Plans are underway for next year's big show, Dear Edwina Jr.
